Q.

egg allergy and measles vaccination

Hi there

My son is 9 months old and i was told to give him egg before his measles vaccination. Over about 2 weeks, I gave him egg yolk only , about 3 - 4 times. The last time I gave it to him, he had a lot of vomiting ( which I was told was a virus), then 4 days later I gave him more egg, this time a whole egg (included the white). Again, there was more vomitting. I suspect he is allergic to egg. What do I do about the measles vaccine?

Please advise

Kind regargs

Paediatrician

Your baby is allergic to eggs but he can have the measles vaccination which is grown on chick embryo and not eggs. It is best to ask your paediatrician to do this vaccination. Your baby will need to remain in the doctor's rooms for 30 minutes for observation after the immunisation.
