Q.

Eczema and asthma

Hi Doc

Could you please advise on a soap that I can use for eczema. The most effected part of my son' s body (8) is his hands, behind his ears, and his legs. I' m currently using Epi-Max plus, but dont know if it is sufficient.

Also, he has asthma, that normally occurs at night time. Coughing and then he weezes alot at night. I have the Asthavent inhaler and Beclotate inhaler as well as Ashtavent syrup. Is this enough and should I only be spraying him at night or throughout the day.

Thanks

I would prefer you not to use any soap at all.EpiMax is ideal.
Your son's asthma is not well controlled if he is coughing every night. This is a sign of poor control. Beclate Inhaler is a very old fashioned asthma preventer and there are much better treatments available these days. Do not give him the Asthavent Syrup if he coughs as this takes at least 45minutes to start working and there are unpleasant side effects such as trembling and restlessness. You should only use the Asthavent Inhaler if he coughs or is wheezing. It is only to be used as a reliever, not to prevent his asthma symptoms. I really would like your son to be seen by a paediatrician with experiencece in paediatric allergy or pulmonology so that his asthma can be properly treated.
