Hi Doctor

My baby is now 7.4 months old and he' s had the Eczema since he was 3 months. I have went to GPs, Paediatrician and a Dermatologist but the medicine prescribed doesn' t help. Some do clear the rash and later it comes back again. I have used Episone E to wash him with and applied prescribed ointment by a dermatolgist which was Elecon Cream and Epizone 120, it work wonders for fews weeks afterwards the rash came back again and I didn' t want to use it for long as it makes his skin thin.

I got him Epizone A to moisturise him with it which made the Eczema worse. I stopped using it and changed to Epimax with no luck either, now i' m using E45 which still doesn' t help him in anyways. I took him to the doctor which he prescribed Prohost Syrup, will it work? I' m even scared to spend money on medication this days as none of the med work.

He also gave him Persivate Cream to apply twice a day, which i know wil help to clear the rash and in one weeks time they will come back again. Doctor i don' t know what to do anymore. Pls help!

You have great insight into the dangers of using cortisone creams of different kinds on your baby's skin. The chances of side effects are high.Do not use the Prohist which is no longer permitted for babies, nor the Persivate which is a strong cortisone cream. You need to have a proper diagnosis of your baby's problem and you must know what foods are aggravating his skin rash. Please take him to see a paediatric allergist. There are specialists in all the main centres in SA. if you have any difficulty in finding a paediatric allergist let me know in which city you live and I will advise you further.

Dear Doctor

Thanks for the response. I live in Randburg, President Ridge. I took my baby to a Paediatrician last year at Sandton Mediclinic he' s name was Dr. K. Heimann, is he the same as Paediatric Allergist? He card just say Paediatrician. If not please advice me where to find one. I will stop all the ointments as from today, and the Prohist i haven' t bought it yet. That' s why i asked you if it' s good for him or not and thanks for the advice.
