Early puberty seen more often?

Many thanks for your reply regarding my 8 year old daughter who seems to be going through early puberty. I have made an appt for later this week.

There seem to be an awful lot of posts regarding similar issues from other parents - from sweaty armpits, breast developing, early menustruation. From your experience as a doctor, are you finding that this is becoming more common now (early puberty) as lots of posts refer to it. It just seems that children are developing earlier that we did - I am sure that antibiotics in foodstuffs etc we consume now have a lot to answer for......

You are quite correct. There are many posts these days about early puberty. It is of concern as it is always difficult to know if this is just a normal onset of puberty at an early age or if there is an hormonal problem. Dietary factors and climate may well play a part in causing early puberty to be so common in this country.
