Ear correction in children

My daughter is 9 months old and her ears are an odd shape. The cartilage of the helix is a bit folded over and her ears look a little pointed, or kinked at the tip. From the Internet research I have done, I think the correct term would be a mild form of “ Constricted Ear” . They were like that from birth and unfortunately we were given the incorrect information that they would correct over time, but when she was 6 months old the paediatrician told us they would stay that shape. I really don’ t want her to develop an insecurity about her ears and am looking into options as to what can be done to correct the shape of her ears.

At this stage, is surgery when she is 5/6 years old her only option? Or are there any other alternatives that we could try first? I have read online about splinting or moulding that corrects ears without surgery, but can’ t seem to find any information in SA on any Dr’ s that offer this alternative.

Do you perhaps know of any Dr’ s in SA that do splinting/moulding on children’ s ears? Or any expert in this field that we can contact?

Many thanks in advance

There is still time to correct your baby's ear shape. As your baby's ears are not simply sticking out too much but and have an unusual shape it would be best to ask a plastic surgeon for an opinion first before trying other methods of correction. The specialist will advise you about the best way to deal with this problem and all about the timing for this correction.
