Q.

Dry skin on eyelids

Hi

My six year old son has crusty, dry like skin deposits on his eyelids- the area where the eyelashes growfrom. It does not irritate him but it''s been there for a while- sometimes more and sometimes less.He had eczema when he was a baby only. Could this be eczema realted?

Thanks

You have given an excellent description of your son's rash on his eyelids. This is a common condition called 'blepharitis'. Try simple treatment first such as applying a warm [not hot] compress [the small round cotton- wool pads are best] twice daily to both his eyelids. This can be followed by gently washing his eyelids with a wet facecloth with a small amount of baby shampoo.read more about blepharitis on Google. If your son's eyelid rash does not clear he should be seen by his doctor as he may require an antibiotic eye ointment.
