Q.

Droplets of blood in the urine

Hi Doc

My son is two days old, really a bundle of joy. My wife and i are just a bit concern with his last nappy change, there was droplets of blood when he passed Urine. is this normal for this to happen. prior to this his urine was fine.

It is not normal to pass blood in the urine. The most common cause of this is that his nappy is causing a bit of friction and causing the tip of his penis to bleed very slightly.If you think this is happening then change the brand of nappies and apply a little Bepanthen cream to his penis. If this is not the cause please ask your doctor to see him.

Thanks a mil for the feedback, Doc &  Jenna. we will see if this happens again, if so will take him to our doctor.

Congratulations!!!!! welcome to parenthood (if this is your first)

Our son had what sounds to be the same thing - while he was at the hospital - also 2 days old. The doc assured us that it is perfectly normal - some sort of crystals or something. (more orange than red).

Is your wife and baby not still in the hospital so that the nurses or doc can check?
