Q.

Dog or cat' s hair and allergy

Last week I wrote enquiring about an allergist in East London. You recommended Dr Pienaar. He happens to be the partner with my son' s paed. He finally called today with the allergy test results. My son is mildly allergic to cow' s milk, eggs, soya and peanuts. It was however, pointed out that he was allergic to something else that had not been part of the tests that were done, especially because I have always been suspicious that he might be allergic to all the substances for which the test were done and steered clear of anything with them. It hit me that we just bought my mother-in-law a second hand car that has too much dog or cat' s hair in it. My son has been driving around often in this car. We do not own a dog or a cat. Could it be that my son is reacting to these? His rash is just not going away, even though it tooks better in the morning. We are bathing him with Epizone E and moisturising with Epimax as you recommeneded.

Cat hair is very allergenic so it is very possible that this is a factor in aggravating your son's eczema. Your son's skin rash appears to be unusually troublesome. It is important that he sees a paediatrician with expertise in paediatric allergy. You probably only need one consultation.I would recommend Dr Ahmed Manjra in Durban.
