Disturbed sleeping habits

My baby is 11 months old. She had an established sleeping routine of waking up once a night until 6 weeks ago. She now has some sort of disturbed sleeping habits. She does not wake up per se but she cries in her sleep, rolls around, shakes, get startled etc which all leads to her crying and not being peaceful. Sometime patting her on the nappy does not work and she would then cry desperately for at least 15min in which I am unable to sooth her. This all happens while she is a sleep. There is no definite pattern as it would start any time from 11 and last for approximately 3 hours. She would then fall into a deep sleep for approximately 2 hours and then start all over again. The time intervals are usually approximately 30 minutes between each “ crying session” . I have tried everything and are at my wits end, I am exhausted and do not know what to do. Please could you give some advice, I am desperate! Thank you.

It seems that your baby may be having some form of night terrors which is frequent at her age. What is unusual is that she does not wake with these episodes. This is a stage she is going through which will pass over. She does need to be comforted when these episodes occur.Sedatives of any kind are not recommended, but sometimes Rescue drops do seem to help. Putting a night light in her room may also help even though she does not actually wake up.
