When children eat dirt this is called 'pica' and is often a sign that they have an iron deficiency. Please have her checked to be sure that she does not have an iron deficiency and is anemic. ough mixtures for children are no longer recommended. She is unlikely to develop an infection from eating dirt and sand, surprising as this may sound. In fact this kind of behaviour often boosts a child's immune system.
