Q.

Diarrhoea and Nappy Rash

Doctor, my LO is 18 months old and for the past 5 days has had 4 very watery dirty nappies a day. One of the nappies actually " burn' t"  her bum but have treated that with Antipeol and seems to be getting better. She doesnt want to eat anything but has no problem drinking her bottle and juice.
1. What can i give her for the diarrhoea &  when should it stop?
2. She is due her MMR & other 18 month vaccines in 2 days time should i postpone it or is it ok to give her the vaccines ??

Your little daughter's diarrhoea at her particular age may not be an infection at all. She may have what is known as 'Toddler's diarrhoea' This is a rather persistent form of diarrhoea where the child is not usually ill and continues to drink well. In many cases this kind of diarrhoea is aggravated by fruit juices. Stop all fruit juices even if you dilute them and in fact all fruit as well [except apple] and see if she gets better. If she does then hold off with fruit juices completely for several months. She can continue to eat apples and bananas.
If she gets better quickly when you stop the fruit juice then she can have her MMR, but if she still has ongoing diarrhoea then wait until she is completely better.
