Q.

Dark cycles a 1 year old

Hi Doc,
My one year old has dark cycles under his eyes. When this started developing, his Paed did an allergy test and nothing came up. He scraches his eyes and nose sometimes and im beginning to think he might be allergic too.I also have the same symptoms and sneeze a lot. What can i do to make sure that he is not alergic to something?
Thank you

Paediatrician

One of the most common causes of this appearance is indeed the possibility that your baby is allergic. What makes this even more likely is the fact that you seem to be allergic and allergies are usually inherited.Your son appears to have the early symptoms of hay fever and it is important to do the correct allergy tests for him, It is possible that your paediatrician only tested for possible food allergies and did not test for inhaled allergens such as grass pollen, house dust and cats for example. It would be best to take your baby to a paediatric allergist. There are experts in all the main centres in SA.
