Q.

Dairy and phlegm

Dear Doc,
Does dairy or bananas cause phlegm in the chest? Would it be recommended to remove dairy and bananas from a babies diet in order to reduce phlegm and the chances of viruses " harbouring"  in the phlegm?
Thanks

There is a widespread belief that dairy products increase mucous in the airways of the chest, but large studies have shown that there is no truth to this belief. The only time dairy products may cause problems is when a child is actually allergic to milk.
