Q.

Crying child, please help!!!

Dear Doc,

My Little girl has just recently turned 12 months (1 year), lately she has been crying alot (out of the ordinery). When I come home I will play with her a little bit, and as soon as I get up she'll start crying, really crying tears. It can be anything, if she cant reach a toy then she'll really cry.

She is currently on Infacare no. 3 and will drink 4 bottles in 24 hours. She has breaksfast (porrige) in the morning, lunch, snacks before supper and then supper. She'll eat mostly what we eat but some nights can become a real nightmare. I thought she might not be eating enough at creche that's why I give her a snack when I get home.

She hardly sleeps during the day (1 hour max). But, she'll be asleep at 19:30 every night. She has also become very restless in her sleep and wakes quite a few times in the night.

She has also developed a runny nose, and a cough (there seems to be phlem on her chest, you can hear it when she coughs).

I can not afford to take her to the doctor only to have him tell me it's viral and it will clear up on it's own. Do you think it could be teething as her 4th eye tooth (8th tooth) is on its way out, or should I take her to the clinic to have her checked out???

Teething is a very likely cause of her main problem that of crying and appearing to be in pain. She also has a cold which is affecting her chest as well. Keep her nose clear using infant saline nose drops 3 times a day. If she is feverish or has pain use Panado or Calpol syrup.
