Q.

creche teacher

Hi doc

what determines a 5 year old going to grade 1 at 6,
if a child does not well but very exceptional, gives feedback, knows calculations and comminucates clearly,
but the child does not talk, she is an introvert, just like her older sibling and their father, they just dont like talking but in writting they do well,
does that ruin the chances of a childs performance?

i mean my 15 year old only speaks when spoken to but he is an A learner, he gets 100% in class, the same with the small one, but because of her not talking then the teacher assumnes she is confused and therefore cannot be taken to grade R?
i am very upset.

The problem is that children who are very quiet and don't speak up in class hardly get noticed in a class with other children.Unless their non-verbal skills are very obvious, being introverted is going to lead to an unsatisfactory evaluation of the child's ability by the teacher. It should help to speak to the teacher and show her evidence of your daughter's skills, otherwise the opinion of an educational psychologist should be to your daughter's advantage.
