Q.

Cramps /Constipation/Rash

Hi Doc,

My son is 9 weeks old and suffers from terrible tummy cramps. He' s on breastmilk and formula (S26 Gold). The Paedi put him on Donnatal for two weeks - which relieved him a bit, but now that the two weeks have passed the cramps are keeping him awake all night again. I also found that my breast milk flow is extremely slow and when i express it takes me 1/2 an hour to express only 50ml. Could this be the reason for his cramps. Or could he be lactose intolerant? Should i change the formula, if so which formula do u suggest i put him on. About a week ago he was constipated and i used a suppository as per my GP' s suggestion, but now that he' s constipated again i don' t want to just keep using a suppository. Any suggestions?
My baby has also developed a rash. At first it started on his Face and my Paedi recommended Procutan and it cleared up really nicely. The rash has now developed all over his body and there are dry patches on his body as well. The Procutan helps for the rash but what can i use for the dryness.

Thanx so much

The rash your baby has sounds like eczema. This would suggest that he is an allergic baby. This together with his other symptoms suggest that he is probably allergic to cow's milk. Try him on NAN HA and see if he improves.
