Q.

Cramps and discomfort

My baby is 5 weeks old. For the first 2 weeks my wife breast fed then we put her on lactogen 1. The last couple of days she has been battling terribly with cramps. She is passing a stool twice a day so we know she is not constipated. Our pharmacist said the formula might be the problem and suggested we put her on Infacare. We did so yesterday but battled through the night and this morning again with cramps. Is there anything we can give her to alleviate the cramps. We put Telament drops in every bottle of hers but it doesn''t seem to be helping. Please help, going mad...

It is difficult to be sure about your baby's tummy cramps. Importantly she was fine while being breast fed.She has not responded at all to a change of formula or to the use of Telament drops. She may be having infant colic so it would be worthwhile trying her first on a colic treatment such as Bennetts Colic Remedy. If she does not improve she probably has lactose intolerance so it would be advisiable for her to go onto a lactose free formula such as NAN LF.
