Coughing mostly at night

HI doc
I posted a couple of weeks ago about my boy who''s been having flu-like (coughing, congestion, runny nose ,etc) symptoms for about 7 months now. Was on antibiotics a lot until the GP decided to stop with the antibiotics. He''s always on different cough meds but no improvement. I took your advice &  got him creche-guard &  mucospect as well as probiflora. Still no improvement. He''s not in creche , has always stayed home (he''ll be 2 in 2 weeks time). About 2 weeks ago he had diarrhea &  vomiting &  took him to the casualty ward. Was told he has rhinitis allergy. His glands were swollen &  hard ( he had his tonsils &  adenoids removed 3 months ago). They gave us more meds including deselex which he''s supposed to take for at least a month daily. The vomiting &  diarrhea stopped. Now he''s back to coughing again with a lot of phlegm in the chest &  green mucous coming out of the nose when he sneezes. He was admitted to hospital 4 times with bronchoeumonia in the past (last admission was last year). I am giving him something for the cough &  the congestion as well at the moment. What could be causing all of this &  what treatment should he be on?

What you need is a definite diagnosis of your son's problem. With him not being at a creche the problem is more complicated as far as the diagnosis is concerned as he is not being exposed to other children with coughs and colds all the time.It is important to make sure that he does not have asthma or another chronic chest problem such as cystic fibrosis. It would be best to take him to see a paediatric pulmonologist. This should be done as soon as you can get an appointment. If you tell me in which province you live I will recommend an expert to see your son.
