Coughing in 19 month old

Dr I took my little son (almost 19 months old) to the pead 3 weeks ago...He had bad cough, dr checked and said that it was an allergic rhinitis with asthma. If it got worse or he gets fever I must bring him back. He didn' t get a fever, his coughing didn' t get worse, but he is STILL coughing...It sounds like an irritating consistant cough as if he is trying to get something out of his throat. He is still on all his asthma and rhinitis meds, for the last 4 months. Now I' m wondering if his formula is not wortstening the cough, ect. He is on NAN lactose free(because of suspected allergies)....At night after he drank his bottle he coughs VERY bad, with plenty of mucus and sometimes vomits, this carries on for almost an hour. But in the morning he also wakes up with coughing, but then it is a dry irritating cough...Can lactose free also cause a reaction? Is he to young to take him of formula (losing out on all the added vites)? I have been giving him some of my older sons longlife pure ricemilk with tea.(My oldest son has/had foodallergies so we are geared for allergies, ect) My 2 sons are not geneticly related...Or am I just being paranoid thinking that this coughing can be food related because I went through it before? Kind regatrds

From your description it seems to me that your son has whooping cough. He has the typical symptoms of whooping cough. In any case if this was asthma he would be better by now.Try giving him Atreax syrup 2.5ml at night and see if this helps for his cough at night. The cough of whooping cough persists for a long time often as long as 3 months. If your son is not better on the Aterax ask your paediatrician to see him again and inform him of the diagnosis.
