Coughing Fits

Hi dr
My daugter (17 months) was diagnosed with Pharyngitis. Because of all the excess mucus/saliva, she is having complete coughing fits, especially at night - I can hear all the mucus when she breathes. Any advice on what I can do to stop/relieve these fits? The dr gave her Pholtex Junior, but it is not helping. In addition, I have tried saline, sips of water, Mucuspect, Combivent pump, raising her pillow, sweet oil etc.
Thanks so much!

Your little girl almost certainly has whooping cough. Your excellent description of her coughing fits should have alerted your doctor to this diagnosis. It is important to treat this cough as early as possible using the correct antibiotic otherwise whooping cough can continue for 3 months or longer. Please take your daughter back to the doctor and inform him that she has whooping cough.
