Coughing at night in three year old

My three year old coughs a lot at night. It starts with a dry cough and develops into a phlegmy one which results in her bringing it up. This started about two months ago and lately she''s started sporadically during the day as well. I''ve been told it could be an allergy and have been given Nasonex and ACC 200 to give her. The ACC 200 makes her bring up a lot and I''m not keen on the long term use of the Nasonex as its a form of cortisone like medication. Any thoughts on this issue as we''re all being kept awake at night.

It is a bit difficult to be sure without being able to see her, but I suspect that your daughter has whooping cough. This is a very difficult cough to stop and usually lasts at least 3 months and is always worse at night. The best treatment to stop her coughing is an antihistamine called Aterax Syrup. Your daughter needs to take 5ml of the Aterax syrup at bedtime.
