Hi Prof.
Please help! My little girl of 3 started coughing last night. It is a throaty kind of cough but I can hear vibrating of mucous. When she was asleep i listened closely and she was snoring slightly and there was a very slight crackle in her throat. She sneezed a couple of times this morning but no mucous in her nose. When i asked her to sniff it is perfectly open. I am mystified. I gave her some Ponstel (although no sign of a temp and she is eating well...and an ACC 200 effevescent to try and thin the mucous in her throat. I also gave her 1.5 ml of her Deselex which she takes at night but i thought if it is allergies she might need in the morning too? She has never had this coughing without a runny nose and this is the third time she has had it in the last two and half months. Her paed probably thinks i am a bit crazy because each time she says there is not much wrong with her - nothing on her chest. Ps...last night before going to sleep i gave her two squirts of Ashtavent (pump) which helped reduce her cough a bit. Looking forward to your reply.

It is very likely that your daughter is allergic. Also likely is that she has both allergic rhinitis [nasal allergy] as well as the first signs of asthma. She should be see by a paediatrician with experience in paediatric allergy.
