Cough meds

Hi Dr
Us again… 3yr old peg fed little boy, neurologically and developmentally on track.

I have a quick question –  Tayden has been rather snotty and been coughing for about 2 weeks now, a temp coming and going but generally still happy. I have tried Rinex then Deselex then Demazin to try and dry up the mucous but it doesn’ t seem to be working. What else can I try? I have also been giving some Panado now and again when he has the temp

I administer cough medicine through Tayden’ s peg and although this may sound stupid, I just wanted to know whether it will work as well as taking cough medicine orally? His cough is a wet one and he is coughing up some mucous and I have been using Mucospect for 5 days now with no improvement, which makes me think it may be due to giving it through the peg that is may not work as well?

Thanks for your input.

Giving Mucospect through the peg will not affect its benefit to help Tay to cough up the mucous in his chest. It sounds as if he has had a viral bronchiolitis lately. This takes at least 10 days to clear up. It is always best to clear the mucous and not to stop it by using a cough mixture which will suppress his cough reflex. Keep on with the Mucospect.
