Hi Professor,

My 2 year old has a wet cough. I initially gave him Prospan, 2.5ml three times a day for 5 days and then stopped, but the cough has continued. I use Saline Solution on the Nebulizer once a day for 5 minutes. Is there anything else I can give him? He does not have a fever and is eating okay. His sleep is disrupted as when he coughs, he wakes up. I have Celestamine and Biosolvin in my medicine chest, would one of these help?

Thank you.

It is possible that your little boy has a whooping cough infection. The fact that his cough wakes him up makes this diagnosi likely. There is a lot of this illness gong around now. Also the cough mixture did not help him which usually happens with whooping cough. It is best to see your doctor about treating your child for possible whooping cough as this cough can continue for 3 months if not treated early.
