Hi Dr
Please can you advise, my 4 and a half month old has had a cough for about two months now. His only symptom is a cough - no fevers, happy, feeding and sleeping well. The cough sounds phlegmy but he has not had much of a stuffy or runny nose. His nose does not seem blocked and I have been using saline drops on and off now since the cough started. This morning however he seemed quite wheezy and his breathing was quite laboured however, by the afternoon he seemed much better - still coughing but not as much and I have not heard the wheezing again. Do I take him the the Dr or wait it out?

No,you cannot wait this out. Your baby has been coughing for 2 months. He does not appear to have an infection as he does not have a fever and is happy and appears well. There are several causes of wheezing and coughing in young infants. The mose likely cause with your son is reflux with him breathing in very tiny amounts of milk which he may be refluxing up from his stomach. Please take him to be seen by your paediatrician.

i just brought my son to the hospital and had chest x-rays done, his x& mdash ray (chest) is white, he has a bad chest infection and bad post nasal drip, they sent him for a tb test as well, i have to wait 3 days for the result.
the secretary of the school he goes to says that most of the kids have a bad cough and apparantly it lasts for 3 months as there is a coughing virus going around. i dont know about this but i had to get my son seen to.

I am also going through the same thing, my son turned 3 on the 10th April. He has been having this persistant cough for almost two months now, he has been on antibiotics and cough medicine but does not respond to them. The cough gets wors in the early hours of the morning, he does not vomit, no fever and he eats very well. The cogh is also phlegmy but no stuffy or runny nose.

hi there,
i have the same problem with my 9 year old son, he has had a cough for over 2 months now and has been on antibiotics and cough medicine and even old folk remedies like cod liver oil and borsdruppels and nothing has helped. he is forever going to doctor and getting fed medication but nothing is helping.
it gets worse at night, it is like a itch in his throat he says and we give him biscuits to eat but nothing.
he is very skinny and has no appetite, could he be asthmatic?
please help.
