Childhood Diseases

My Kids (Son aged 1.5 and Daughter aged 3 respectively) have developed a cough which will not go away. i think its allergy (dust, pollen) related but dont know for sure, the blood tests for my daughter did not show much, and i dont want to poke my son for blood if not necessary. Its mostly active at nights, particularly while sleeping. I have tried many different cough medicines (Berotec, Benilin, Bronchoped, woods, etc), as well as nebuliser (plain saline solution). My daughter''s cough is worst where she often vomits whilst coughing. i am afraid all the medication will have a long term negative effect. Please advise what should i do?

Your daughter definitely has whooping cough. This is an infection, not an allergy. It is very probable that your son also has whooping cough. This illness usually lasts for 3 months or longer and does not respond to any cough medicines. You can ask your doctor to prescribe Aterax Syrup 2.5ml at night for your daughter and 1.25ml at night for your son. This may help to lessen the cough at night and to enable them to sleep better.
