hi Dr my 2 year old has developed a cough that is lasting for the past 8 weeks, i have taken her to numerous gps who put her on anti biotics and then a cough syrup but this doesnt seem to help, its seems like a choking wet cough, no runny nose etc this cought comes up once or twice while she is sleeping, and its almost like a choking fit that lasts for 20secs or so, i took her to a nurse last week who prescribed Nitepax, but even that doesnt seem to help please advise what i can do i am at my wits end, could this be swine flu related?

Your daughter almost certainly has a form of whooping cough caused by a virus which mimics the true whooping cough of childhood. This illness is called parapertussis. Try her on Aterax Syrup 10mg at night. Stop all the other medicines. Also give her probiotics because of all the antibiotics she has had recently.
