Q.

Constipation or chronic constipation?

Hi Doc

my LG is 3yrs and she suffers from constipation, going to the toilet after 3 to 4 days. These have been going on for a while now. I have tried Lucson, Prune Juice/ Purity and nothing seesms to be working, i try to give her lots of water but she refuses too drink that much. she criies for juice most of the time and i give her rooibos. During the night she''ll wake up and cry over milk, so i still give her full cream milk especially during midnight.

I don''t know what to call this a chronic constipation or what, please assist doc as this is

Your little daughter is probably constipated but you do not mention whether her stools are hard or not.You can give your daughter fruit juice to drink when she wants some, but not more than twice a day. The fruit juice must be diluted. Make sure that she is on the correct diet for a child with constipation. Give her plenty to drink, rooibos is good, lots of summer fruit and lots of fibre-rich food such as Weetbix and wholewheat bread. Do not give her too much milk to drink and she must not eat cheese.Give her Duphalac liquid 5ml twice a day for 14 days.Duphalac is a stool softener and should help her constipation.
