Q.

Constipation

hI Doc
My son is 5 months old and has been passing rather hard stools. Also very little of it as well. I tried massaging him and olive oil.
What can I do for his constipation? What is the recommended dose and how often can I give a baby olive oil.

Do not give your baby olive oil or any other laxative. I presume that he is on a formula feed. If this is indeed the case you should try him on Novalac IT. Follow the instructions carefully.

When my LO was constipated I was told to use brown sugar. Just put a little into some warm water or into one of his milk feeds. A 1/4 teaspoon to a 100ml should be fine. You can also use honey. This worked for me.
