Q.

Constipated babies

My twins are constipated and pass really hard stools. They have Cerelac in the morning, either pears, apples or fruit Purity for lunch and have butternut, sweet potato or carrots for supper. They have at least three 150ml feeds of Lactogen 2 during the day. I breastfeed during the nite. Any suggestions on how I can alleviate the constipation? Also, what protein is safe to introduce at this stage? They are 8 months old.

The question is why your twins are constipated. They are on a good formula milk for constipated babies and their diet seems reasonable as well.It may be the milk in the Cerelac which bis causing constipation. Change to a maize cereal which is cow's milk free such as Purity maize cereal. Also try a specific anti-constipation formuala such as Novalac IT.
