Q.

Constant Itching Back - 5 year old

My year 5 old son has a constant itching back. It has been going on for months. Been to the GP who said its the soap and lotion and I have changed to protex and sanex etc. It is only his back and its terrible for him.

This is a difficult problem to treat and also to diagnose. there are not many recognised causes for this complaint. Eczema is certainly one cause as another eczema-like condition called contact dermatitis. It seems that your son does not have a rash. It is worthwhile treating him for a possible parasite infection called pinworms which may cause this kind of itching. Give him a single 5ml dose of Vermox syrup. Apply Epimax after bathing him and do not use any soaps at all.Just wash him with plain water.
