Cold and red rash on cheeks

My 6 month old baby has been sick for more than a week now. He' s been to the doctor and she has given him Betnesol N drops and told me to continue with the saline spray. She noted some redness in his right ear. However today about 8 days in, he has developed what looks like red cheeks. On closer inspection, it seems to be a rash on both cheeks. Is this connected to the cold/ear? Or is it merely an independent skin thing?

This is an illness called 'slapped cheek disease' which is caused by a virus called Parvovirus B19. It is also called Fifth Disease. It is usually a short lasting illness and babies recover within about 5 days.Do not use the Betnesol drops which is a cortisone, just the saline drops.Read more about slapped cheek disease on Google.
