Q.

closes ears

My granddaughter is 3 1/2. She hears very well , but I noticed when there is a loud noise like for instance I draged a chair on the floor the other day and it made that squicking noise, then she holds her hands over her ears and cries. Is this just because of the noise or could there be something wrong with her ears ? Have you ever heard of this ?

Paediatrician

This is fairly common in children of this age and is known as 'hyperacuisis' It can be quite normal in most children, but the concern is that it is commonly found in children with the autistic syndrome. If your granddaughter's development has been of any concern to date then she should be assessed by a paediatric neurologist.
