Circumcision at an older age

I am a widow with two young boys aged 5 and 4. My late husband was not circumcised, so, we made the decision not to circumcise the boys at birth. I have now met a man, we are engaged and he is extremely religious. He finds it quite unacceptable that the boys are not circumcised and feels it would be better for them to be - both from a hygiene perspective and a religious perspective.

I am concerned this would cause the boys pain both physically and emotionally. I would like an expert opinion on what is truly best at this point.

I fully support my fiance' s religious views but do not want the boys to suffer due to earlier choices made by their parents.

There is absolutely no need for your sons to be circumcised. Your fiance has no right to expect this operation to be carried out on your boys. Circumcisions are only done for valid medical reasons. If your fiance finds this unaccepatable what other things are going to worry him later on?

Well put Pead.
WorriedMom, for your fiance to impose his religious beliefs on your sons is not only a violation of their right to choose their own belief / religion, but also a violation of their fundamental constitutional rights to self determination. Stand your ground and protect the genital integrity of your current and any potential future sons.
