What is the perfect age to circumcise a baby boy?

There is no 'perfect' time as such.

SA Doctors will no longer perform circumcisions unless there is a valid medical condition requiring such. The foreskin is a normal and functional part of the male genitals.

Under the provisions of the Children' s Act 2005 (as amended) this is now only performed on recommendation from a doctor. The SA Medical Association has issued guidelines that this should not be performed as a prophylactic procedure as the benefits do not justify the risk and damage caused.

SAMA and SA Doctors are also concerned that, as this is an elective surgery to which the infant cannot consent, that performing circumcisions in the absence of a medical condition also violates their Hippocratic Oath and the National Health Act of 2003 and the Human Tissue Act.

Further concern is that this procedure violates the child' s Constitutional Rights to be treated with dignity and respect. Not to be subjected to acts of violence and more importantly their rights to self determination and an intact body.

Allow your son the right to an intact body and the right to make the decision to circumcise (should he wish to) when he is an adult.
