Q.

Ciprelex

Hi dr....my son aged 8yr....has been diagnosed by a child psychiatrist with anxiety disorder, OCD traids and PDD NOS, possible Aspergers.
He is being treated with Ciprelex 15 mg daily for the last 3-4 months....he still sometimes gets panic attacks and some terrible meltdowns....the last time during a meltdown he started with headbanging and wanted to cut himself......Now I have read on the internet they say Ciprelex is not recommended for use in children under 18......This worries me.....I dont want to do anything to put my sons health at risk....but we are desperate to decrease the emotional stress and pain within my son and our family.....

Cipralex also known as Escitalopram is usually used for the treatment of depression.Cipralex can be used in children under 18 years but only with great caution and close monitoring by the doctor. One of the unwanted side effects is self-harm.Anxiety is also a known side effect.I am concerned about your son's behaviour on this medicine and recommend that he be seen again by the doctor who prescibed the Cipralex.

As an adult I became suicidal on Cipralex, I would also recommend changing his medication
