Chronic Tonsillitis

Dear Doctor
My son is 4 years 9 months old. On monday he developed a very high grade fever of 40. We took him to his doctor who said he had chronic tonsillitis. He has been put on Orelox antibiotics. Today is his last day on them, however his fever returns once a day and his nose still runs constantly. Should I take him back to the doctor. I dont believe in extended periods on antibiotics as I dont think its good for the body. I spray Sterimar in his nose twice a day and this seems to help. Could the runny nose be causing the Tonsillitis every time, he has had it twice this year so far. Would it be better to just have his tonsils removed? and how long should I wait before I do?

Thank you so much

Your son definitely needs to have his tonsils and probably his adenoids as well removed as soon as possible. He cannot continue to be treated on antibiotics so often. Please take him to see an ENT surgeon.

personal tip from me to you, have the tonsils removed a.s.a.p
my little boy had tonsilitis 11 times in a question of 2 and half years. we had his tonsils removed this year March and since then we only had to take him to the dr once.
I certainly think the fever is a concern, I would rather take him back and have it checked out.

good luck
