Chickenpox and Shingles

My daughter had chickenpox when she was 4 months old and she had Shingles early in last year. I was told that the Shingles is related to the same Zoster virus since she has had Chickenpox already. She is now 3.5yrs old, what is the chances of her contracting Chickenpox or Shingles again if she has been exposed to this at creche? Will she continue to get Shingles over and over as she is exposed and are there any other risks for her?

It is very unusual for a child of your daughter's age to get shingles. Of course it is very common for children to get chicken pox. You are correct it is the same virus. The question is why did your daughter develop shingles at her age as it usually only occurs in older people and in those with a low immunity? You are also correct in the fact that shingles may recur in some people especially when their immunity is down. It would be a good idea to ask your paediatrician to see your daughter. She should probably have tests done to see if her immune system is functioning normally including her immunoglobulin levels and white blood cell function.

Hi Doctor, My daughter had a complete range of blood tests done if I am not mistaken in January this year to test for Diabetes as she had excessive thurst and she went to the toilet atleast hourly to urinate. it came back negative and the doctor advised that all seems fine. I am sure she would have tested for other issues as well besides just the Diabetes to eliminate any other underlying issues that may cause the same type of symptoms? I do also know that Shingles can occur as a result of Stress and have been so guilt ridden as we went through a rough time since beginning of last year until around October and I thought it was perhaps of the stress that I was under that was causing her stress etc which resulted in the Shingles appearing. She was seen by my paediatrician a few weeks after the Shingles went away and i showed him the mark (he then confirmed it was def shingles) and then just mentioned it is the body''s way of saying it is under stress amongst other things. He did however not mention doing any other tests back then.
I have got her on a kiddies multivitam as well as a Probiotic since she is in Creche.
