It is very unusual for a child of your daughter's age to get shingles. Of course it is very common for children to get chicken pox. You are correct it is the same virus. The question is why did your daughter develop shingles at her age as it usually only occurs in older people and in those with a low immunity? You are also correct in the fact that shingles may recur in some people especially when their immunity is down. It would be a good idea to ask your paediatrician to see your daughter. She should probably have tests done to see if her immune system is functioning normally including her immunoglobulin levels and white blood cell function.
