Chicken Pox

Hi Dr

Is there different " levels"  of severity for chicken pox

Last week Friday (3rd Feb) my 2year old daughter was a bit niggly but no fever or any other physical symptoms of illness.

The Saturday she woke up fine, but by 11:00 she had about 20 spots on her that I though was mosquito bites, which I thought was strange as she didnt have them when she woke up.

However withing a few hours she started scratching them, 2 she literally scrathed into the skin and the others only the top layer. I put plasters on all of them to stop her scratching.

Now that the scabs are coming of, the marks looks like holes or indentations, pink and not pretty at all, not like a notmal mozzie bite would look when it goes away.

Could it be that she had chicken pox without me realising?

This does sound like chicken pox. Some children can have this illness very mildly and some have a severe form with the rash all over their bodies. The fact that she has as many as 20 spots make it unlikely that mosquito bites are the cause.
