Chicken pox

Hi Doc
Please could you tell me when chicken pox is easily transferred from person to person. My sons creche has the chicken pox doing its rounds and i am thinking of keeping him at home so that he doesnt get it as i have a 9 month old baby at home and im not sure if he has been vaccinated against it. Could you also please let me know the first warning signs.
Thank you so much for helping all us distraught parents. i surely appreciate it.

You are very welcome.Chicken pox is very infectious and all people of any age who have not had chicken pox or have not been vaccinated against chicken pox are at risk. Children who get chicken pox are infectious to others until the chiken pox blisters scab and dry out. This usually takes about 7 days. The first symptoms may just be a fever and then the typical chicken pox blisters surrounded by a thin pink border start appearing. The rash usually starts on the body and spreads to the face and then the limbs.Your 9 month baby has not been vaccinated against chicken pox.
