Chest pain

Good morning Dr

My 8 years old daughter has been complaining of a sharp chest pain for the past 2 months. It is not constantly there,it comes and goes and she says it is most sore when she tries to move.

Please advise what could be causing this and if it''s somethingI should really panic about. When she was younger she was lactose intolerant and had asthma, she hasn''t had an attack in 2 years.

Thank You.

This is not due to asthma. This pain is not uncommon in children of your daughter's age and is known as the Da Costa syndrome or internal mammary pain. It is often caused by stress. The pain is not caused by any heart problem so do not be concerned. It usually disappears by itself after a while. Ask your daughter about any possible problem at school such as there being one of the children there who is bullying her or some other concern she may have at school.
