Change in toddler behaviour

Hi dr
My son is almost 3 and has always been a good eater &  sleeper. However about 10 days ago everything changed. He hardly eats anything (or takes an hour to finish one meal) and does not want to go and sleep. When he eventually falls asleep, he wakes again at the crack of dawn (unusual for him). We have an evening routine which has not changed. He recently had a cold, but has fully recovered from it, that''s why I wasn''t at first concerned. I even offer different meals, but he refuses. He still has yoghurt, a bit of cereal &  2 cups of milk. He does not appear ill &  has his usual energy levels.
What could be the cause of the sudden change in behaviour? Or do I just need to give it time to return to normal?

It is difficult to know exactly what is happening to change your son's behaviour in this way. He had a cold or more likely the flu recently and this may account for his loss of appetite. Even if his nose is slightly blocked this could be the main reason for his present lack of appetite and change in sleeping habits. Keep his nose clear by using saline nose drops or spray twice daily and give him a probiotic to boost his immunity. It will help to add Scotts Emulsion daily as well.
