Chalazion/ stye

Dear Doctor

My daughter is 3 years old. Last year Oct she got a chalazion which was removed surgically. Then in November she got the lumps on top of the eyelids both eyes took her to an eye specialist who then prescribed PATANOL eye solution which i had to administer to her daily. I did so but still the lumps didnt go. I took her back this year June. She went for an operation again. The Eye specialist doesnt even seem to be concern what could be causing them instead he just keeps cutting. One eye is ok now, but the other one there is still a small lump which sometimes gets bigger. Im not sure how to handle this anymore as she complains that its painful.

Your response will be highly appreciated.

Chalazions are also known as meibomium cyts. Sometimes these cysts become infected. Patanol is an anti-allergic eye drop and is not usually the tretament for this kind of problem. Most cysts clear up by themselves [more than half of all cysts do so]. This will probably happen with the small cyst your daughter has now.
