broken tooth and swelling

Hi Paed

Please assist. My 2 year old son fell face down on a ceramic tiled floor and broke his front tooth.i took him to the hospital as it was during the night. He was checked and was given panado and stop pain medicine.he slept the whole night without complaining. Its been two weeks now and he still experiences pain on his upper lip and nose.On sunday he woke up with a swollen face on the side of the broken tooth.I took him to the GP yesterday and he advised that the tooth must be taken out.he also gave him some pain medicine. Is it wise to take the tooth out or must i leave it as eventually he will loose his milk teeth.

Your son may have developed an infection in this tooth causing an abscess. He must be seen by a dentist about this problem.
