You have breast fed your son for a very long period. You are still producing milk despite taking Dostinex which is an excellent medicine to stop your breast milk. Also the stimulus to produce breast milk has also been stopped with your son no longer sucking on your breast. It is difficult to inform you just how long it will take for your milk to stop completely but it does appear necessary for you to take another two doses of the Dostinex. If this does not help you may have to take a dose at weekly intervals until your milk dries up.

Oh shame Carmy, I know it just tugs at your heart strings so much. It broke my heart to stop feeding, but I just didn''t want to anymore, and then of course once we''d gone a few days without, I wished I hadn''t. He told me last night that milk from my breasts is the best tasting milk. He''s six so I asked if he remembers what it tastes like and he said he remembers that it tasted yummy and was the best thing in the world.

Hang in there, you will get through this and so will he. You have done an amazing thing by feeding for so long and both you and your son will benefit from this immensely in the long term.

If you do let him suck, he will be very confused about you changing your mind.

I stopped at two and a half, and when he asked I would offer special ice lolly''s I''d made for just that purpose. Also, I usually dilute his juice and I''d offer him a cup of undiluted fruit juice, and often he was just thirsty and would drink it, I just slowly started diluting again after a while.
Sometimes though he would cry and I''d just hold him and tell him how much I love him.

I told him that my milk was finished. I didn''t use pills to stop my mlk production as I stopped feeds quite gradually over a 6 month period by initially stopping all feeds outside of home and only allowing those at home, then stopping night time feeds, then stopping day time feeds then stopping the bed time feed and finally stopping his first thing int he morning feed which was his favourite.

I''m not sure how long it took for my milk to stop after that, I thnk it was about a week or two before there was nothing left.
About 6 months later he wanted to check if there was any left and I let him and he told me there wasn''t.
