Breastfeeding and Augmentin

I have tonsillitis and the GP prescribed Augmentin BD. He told me to have 2 tablets on the first day, and then to have one tablet every twelve hours. He said it was safe to breastfeed while on it.

My daughter (9 months old) is acting a bit irritable and out of sorts since I started having it, but I am aware that this could be a coincidence, or a reaction to me being ill.

Is Augmentin safe in breastfeeding, or should I put her on formula for a few days (she has never been on formula before)? Could I have caused any damage to her, especially with the doubled dose, and could that be causing her irritability?

Augmentin does pass into your breastmilk in very small amounts, but it is unlikely that it will cause any problems for your baby.So you can complete the course of Augmentin while continuing to breastfeed your baby.
