Q.

Breast Buds

My daughter is 8 years and 3 months old. It looks like she is developing breast (breast buds). Is this normal for her age, is it not too early for puberty? There is no other signs of puberty yet.

Thanks.

This is an early sign of puberty. It is becoming more common for this early sign to occur in younger girls and about 12% of 8 year old girls will develop breast buds. In general menstruation does not occur in these girls until they are about 11 or 12 years old, but other signs of puberty will appear sooner.
