breaking habit

Hello Dr

My son is almost 11 months now and he is waking up about 4 times a night - sometimes twice for a bottle and the other times just moan crying until we go to him. I have been told by a number of mom' s to give him medication to make him sleepy for 3 nights rto break the habit. Problem is that Panado seems to wake him up and make him hyperactive, calpol does nothing - he sleeps for about an hour before waking up and i do not think Nurophen is the right med? Empaped is for pain and fever and does not make him drowsy. The only med i can think of that has made him drowsy was Demazin for colds and flu.

He eats very well during the day - 3 meals and 2 snacks with 1 bottle formula in the morning (250ml), 2 bottles of juice or tea (300ml each) during the day and another formula at night before he sleeps (250ml).

He weighs 10.2kgs

Any advice?

Your baby's weight is excellent for his age.He is getting enough food and formula. There is no reason for him to be waking 4 times very night for feeds other than a habit he has developed. Do not even think of sedating your baby as this is definitely not recommended. The only way around this problem is to go through the controlled crying method. It is not pleasant but it works.
