I am very sorry indeed to hear about your baby daughter. I am sure that the neurosurgeon has explained what is meant by a pilomyxoid astrocytoma. This kind of tumour could not be accurately diagnosed until a few years ago. Unfortunately it tends to be an aggressive brain tumour which usually occurs in very young children.Chemotherapy is the most successful form of treatment.Sometimes it is so successful that radiotherapy is not needed.I hope that this will be the case for your daughter. No one knows what causes this kind of tumour in such a young baby but one thing is certain it is not due to anything you did or did not do during your pregnancy with her. Please ask the doctor who is doing her treatment to send you for counselling and support. You will also need the support of your family and friends at this difficult time.
