Q.

Boy of 4 continues crying in his sleep

Hi, my son is 4 years old and cries in his sleep. The doctor prescribed medicine for a month to help him sleep. He also went for an EEG and that was normal. He stopped using the sleep medicine a week ago and started crying again about 2 days ago. He also wakes at abount 2 - 3 in the morning with complaints that he is hungry. He tends to be aggressive and throws tandtrums a lot.

The most likely cause of your son crying in his sleep is 'night terrors'. This is very common in young children. When he wakes he may appear confuseed and just stare at you. Just reassure him and settle him down and he will go back to sleep. This is usually a passing phase and he will get over this problem without any medicines or sedatives.
